Redundancy in your upper eyelid skin, drooping of the upper eyelid(s), and/or asymmetries in upper eyelid position can all be reasons to have upper eyelid lifting procedures. Patients often come to the office because they are displeased about the appearance of their upper eyelids or because they feel their drooping eyelids are affecting their vision. In any case, during your consultation, Dr. Peyman will address your concerns. If he feels your goals are obtainable and safe, he will fully explain the recommended procedure(s). He will also explain why your case may or may not be authorized by insurance.
There are many reasons why your upper eyelids can begin to droop. The most common is the natural laxity of the thin skin above the eyelid and/or the attenuation of the thin muscles that lift the eyelid that comes with age. There is a whole host of other causes that can occur in younger individuals, some of which are emergent and others that are not. Generally, a sudden change in the eyelid position needs to be evaluated urgently especially when accompanied by other visual changes such as double vision. Other known causes include a history of prior eye surgery, trauma to or around the eyes, and history of chronic contact lens use. Dr. Peyman will determine and discuss the likely cause of your drooping eyelids at your consultation.
You can expect a naturally improved position and rejuvenated appearance of your eyelids. Before starting the procedure, Dr. Peyman takes his time marking the upper eyelids appropriately with the patient in seated upright position to ensure safety and symmetry, and fine adjustments are made, if necessary, during the procedure to get the best results possible.
