Fractionated ablative CO2 laser skin resurfacing can be done alone or in conjunction with eyelid procedures to tighten the skin around the eyes and/or face to achieve a more youthful appearance. It is a wonderful non-surgical treatment to rejuvenate the skin and can be performed in the office and/or operating room setting. During your consult, Dr. Peyman will let you know if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Laser Resurfacing

Fractionated ablative CO2 laser skin resurfacing utilizes CO2 laser energy to ablate the skin, causing it to peel off and renew while stimulating collagen formation in the deeper dermal layer. The energy settings are adjusted based on your skin tone and area of the face treated. It is effective for treating fine lines/wrinkles, pigmentation, scarred skin, rosacea, and large pores.

Not everyone is a good candidate for treatment. Generally, lighter skin-toned patients have less risk for hyperpigmentation than more pigmented individuals. Dr. Peyman will assess your skin and let you know if you should proceed with treatment or not. At times, patients will be offered a “test spot” in the office to determine if they are good candidates prior to scheduling the procedure.

Patients can expect their skin to appear rejuvenated after this procedure. While the laser won’t eliminate every line or wrinkle or all pigment, it will certainly renew the skin, making it more youthful, polished, and tighter. Finer lines, scar tissue, pigmentation, and uniformity of the skin will all be improved.

Patients generally tolerate the procedure well whether in the office or operating room setting. Compounded topical numbing cream is applied well in advance of the procedure and certain facial areas are injected with numbing agents to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

On average it takes around 1 full week for the skin to regenerate following the procedure. During this time, patients will follow the instructions provided and apply vinegar soaks and Aquaphor over the resurfaced skin. The skin will naturally peel off throughout the week. Patients then transition to using sunscreen and moisturizer along with their usual skin care products including makeup.

The effects of the laser are permanent. The old skin peels off and patients are left with new collagen enriched skin in the areas treated. The procedure does not need to be repeated. Skin protecting measures such as sunscreen and moisturizer will be recommended to minimize further aging of the skin following treatment.
